Devona's story
Devona first came to Interfaith in 2005, when she was referred for emergency shelter. She was 29 years old, pregnant and alone. Devona was new to the Albany area and had no one to turn to.
During her stay at Interfaith, she accomplished many goals through hard work and the support of her cheerleaders (staff) at Interfaith. Her positive outlook and contagious smile were an inspiration to others around her. In time, Devona was able to obtain her own apartment and upon leaving the shelter told us that she felt like a “changed person” after this experience.
Since that time, Devona has continued to work hard to better her situation and was able to find a larger apartment in safer neighborhood with help from the case management staff at Interfaith’s Drop-In Center. She now lives in this two bedroom apartment with her son Davonte and pays her own rent each month. She continues to participate in life skills activities at the Drop-In Center that help her with budget management, parenting skills, nutrition and resource education.
Devona states: “If it hadn’t been for Interfaith, I probably would have given up on myself a long time ago. I am thankful to be where I am today.”
