Summary:

In recognition of the dignity and value of every human life, the mission of Interfaith Partnership for the Homeless (IPH) is to address the needs of the homeless and low-income community by providing a continuum of services to encourage self-sufficiency, empowerment, and stability. IPH operates 3 emergency shelters, a Medical Respite shelter, permanent housing, a Drop-In Center, a Health and Wellness program, a summer youth program, and the Albany Ambassadors employment initiative.

 

EMERGENCY SHELTER SUPERVISOR

The Emergency Shelter Supervisor is responsible for the oversight and operations of the Albany Emergency Shelter.  This position provides support and supervision to the Case Manager and Senior Shelter Attendant and provides direct case management services to a small caseload of shelter guests.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  • Model and reinforce Interfaith Partnership for the Homeless’ mission “to address the needs of the homeless and low-income community by providing a continuum of services to encourage self-sufficiency, empowerment, and stability.”
  • Uphold IPH’s core values of Respect, Integrity, Compassion, Determination, and Dedication.
  • Provide supervision and oversight of shelter operations, including admissions, service provision, discharges, and management of staff.
  • Provide support and supervision to Case Managers and the Shelter Attendant Supervisor.
  • Provide direct case management services to a small caseload of shelter guests.
  • Provide guidance related to assessments of guests’ needs and coordination of services.
  • Implement crisis intervention techniques and respond effectively to emergency situations.
  • Respond to after-hours needs of staff and guests (on-call responsibilities), primarily over the phone.
  • Establish and maintain community partnerships to ensure access to services for shelter guests.
  • Ensure accuracy of case files and other program-related documentation.
  • Track program outcomes and perform program evaluation.
  • Ensure shelter operations meet or exceed expectations set forth by funding entities and other governmental regulations.
  • Utilize the web-based Homeless Management Information System (HMIS) database to manage data and complete reporting, as requested.
  • Actively participate in system improvement and advocacy activities regarding homelessness.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education/Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in human services or related field; Master’s degree preferred
  • A minimum of three years’ experience in a human services setting
  • Case Management experience
  • Supervisory experience preferred

  • Strong organizational skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills necessary to work with vulnerable and underserved populations.
  • Ability to maintain guest confidentiality.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to make independent decisions when necessary.
  • Sound independent judgment within scope of the program.
