Memorial Benefit Raises $5,000 for IPH

Interfaith Partnership for the Homeless (IPH) is the recipient of a $5,000 donation from the Celtic Rays of Hope Foundation.

The donation comes from the foundation’s 7th Annual Devin Nolan and Elizabeth Harkes Memorial Gift Giving event that was held earlier this December to benefit IPH.

The benefit invites family and friends of both Devin and Elizabeth to kick off the holiday season with food, music, and festivities. Guests are encouraged to bring gift cards, toys, and monetary donations to benefit a charity of choice. This year’s charities were Catholic Charities and Interfaith Partnership for the Homeless.

“The generosity of our community never fails to amaze me,” said Carole Hackett, one of the founding event organizers. “Having this event at Christmas time every year brings us all together and helps us cope with the loss of our children, knowing there are so many caring individuals who help us help others in their memory.”

The funds come to IPH at an important time. In addition to operating a 30 bed Albany Emergency Shelter for men and women, IPH has opened an extra Safe Haven Shelter which was meant to provide 19 beds during the winter season, however, the agency is seeing upwards of 40 individuals seeking shelter each night.

“We are so thankful for the incredible generosity of the family and friends of Devin and Elizabeth,” said Janine Robitaille, Executive Director of IPH. “This donation is critical in allowing us to continue meeting the increased demand for shelter services this season, giving our guests a place to call home.”

In addition to the Albany Emergency Shelter and Safe Haven Shelter, IPH operates an emergency shelter in Amsterdam, a daytime Sheridan Hollow Drop-In Center, a Housing Program, a Health & Wellness Program, and a Youth Program.
